FAQ
What is GeoPollster?
GeoPollster provides real-time location-based political polling.
Why should I use GeoPollster?
Traditional polling organizations conduct polls by calling people who have landline telephones. This means that existing polling data is gathered from people who own landlines and are too polite to hang up on cold callers. GeoPollster changes this by conducting polls through a location-based service (currently
Foursquare
). GeoPollster users can change their party affiliation at any time, allowing GeoPollster to keep track of real-time voter sentiment.

How does GeoPollster work?
When you sign up for GeoPollster, you select which political party you currently support. Then each time you check in to a Foursquare venue, GeoPollster will count your checkin as a "vote" for that party. Votes are tallied to determine polling data for the venue, the city, the province, the nation, and even the venue's category.
How do I sign up?
Signing up is easy. First, you need to have a Foursquare account. If you don't have one, you can create one
here
. Once you have a Foursquare account, you can
sign up
for GeoPollster. Signing up will add GeoPollster Canada as a Foursquare friend. During the sign up process, be sure to select which party you currently want to vote for or else your checkins won't count as votes.
Do others know what party I'm voting for?
No. That information is private. All of our polling data is used anonymously.
How does GeoPollster break a tie?
Venues, categories, cities, provinces, and the nation have a ruling party. To oust the ruling party, a challenging party must get more votes than the ruling party. In the event of a tie, the ruling party will still be in power.
Where can I use GeoPollster?
GeoPollster Canada can be used in all of Canada.
